I've been learning slowly over the past few years and when my daughter's laptop stopped charging, I joined this forum. I've learned enough in the last few days to know I am in over my head so I am hoping someone can recommend somewhere that does logic board repair, in Canada if possible. I would also love to use this as a learning experience so I am going to post the information below and would love some instruction on diagnosing the issue before I send it off.
What happened was one of the USB C ports became loose, I asked my daughter not to use it however she would forget. I should have taped it off. One day it was dying plugged in, after it died it would not boot or charge. I opened the back to pull the battery and the USB C port fell out. Pulled the battery, pulled cmos battery, drained power, replaced cmos battery, tried multiple power supply and no life. Put an identical charged working battery in the laptop and it won't boot... that said the other prestige 14 won't boot off battery until it's plugged in to AC once. So, I assume there is a sensing circuit. I believe the laptop would boot off the battery if it could complete this circuit. I can see a trace from the USB C port lifted from the board. I assume a chip or circuit got shorted. I don't have a schematic and am still a newb, so I don't know what to look for to test. I am going to send it away as soon as I find someone but until then I'd love some pointers on what to test.
