Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Not charging

    Hey guys.

I got a samsung galaxy tab 2 (GT-P5100) which refuses to charge. At first i thought the battery was dead so i ordered a new battery. Same problem, the tablet recognising the charger and shows it is charging but the battery percent is going down instead of increasing!

I tried flashing the tablet with different android versions both official and cfw (ICS and Jellybean), same thing.

So since it's not the battery and it's not a software issue the little MAXIM 17042 drew my attention but i cannot find same replacement. I ordered 17040 which in the datasheets seems to do the same job and it is used in earlier galaxy smartphones but dump...wrong size and pinout!

Anyone know where i can find MAXIM 17042 for this stupid tablet?

P.S. In case you wonder, i used a DC universal switching adaptor configured at 3.7V to charge the battery in order to last through my tests and re-flashes.

Is the charger good? Is the correct voltage from the charger present on the motherboard?

Re: Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Not charging

We've had three Galaxy tablets in recently for repair, and none of them have charged unless using a GENUINE samsung adapter. I have no idea why, but they wouldn't work with our micro usb cables with a generic mains to usb block. It had to be the official charger.

With any other cable, the battery showed an "x" through, and "not charging" appeared next to the battery, so not identical to your situation.

I've seen this in our shop as well, but in some cases even with a genuine charger we still get the X on the battery icon.

We've seen certain laptop chargers throw a signal down the data line (or have an extra data pin) to signify the charger is original or not. Wondering if the controller for that could possibly go faulty. Have never took the time to research any schematics or info so this is all speculation to keep the thread going. I'll do my part the next time we get one in like this.
