Toshiba Satellite A200 won't POST, but cycles on/off

I have a laptop here, A200 (thank goodness I can get the schems for this one!) that has an odd behaviour;

When you press the power button, it comes on for about 2~3 seconds, then turns off, then 3~5 seconds later comes on again and then off again, adfinitum. The time for on/off varies +/- a second or two but it never reaches POST.

Ideas?

search NEC TOKIN proadalizer. You find a hugely popular post in this forum about it. Seen them in A200,A300,L300, L505. Your symptoms sound familiar to this issue. So far I've been lucky enough to fix 4 x A300 and 1 x A200 using someone elses idea of removing the NEC TOKIN and sub with 4 x 330uf smd.

Try it on batt only. In a lot of cases it works until the a/c is plugged in.

The OP had a different problem, but it has to do with the filter capacitor just like you said.

Thanks folks - sorry I've been away for a few days. I've seen that component and been wondering just what on earth its deal is, ta for clearing it up.
