Acer extenza 5230E intermittent no boot

Hi folks this is my first post here, just wondering if anybody here has came across this issue with this model or other model laptops before as it has me stumped.

This seems to be a common problem on this motherboard but I have ben unable to find the cure or root cause.

I have 2 of these laptop both same issues.

1.They wont power up, I have done all the usual stuff removing ram/swapping etc.
2.Removing battery and keeping power button down still no joy.
3.The only result is when I remove/replace the CMOS battery the laptop will power up no problem and as long as you dont let the battery go flat it will power up without fail every day.
4.Then if you remove the Dc power and the battery it wont power up again until you remove the cmos battery.

I have updated the bios with latest available from the Acer website.
I am stumped any suggestions would be great.

Bad bios chip.
Bad supply?

Thanks but been through this stuff before. The common resolution seems to be replace the motherboard but when this boots up and is not allowed to fully discharge the battery, it work flawlessly.

Anybody have a diagram for this model or a place to purchase one please. There seem to be a lot of post on the web with same issue on this model but unfortunately no fix.

Somebody must have experienced this fault as it seems to be across all extenza if not all Acer range.

Had this same problem with a Gateway. The first thing that I found was that it had a shorted CMOS battery, which I thought was strange. I replaced the battery, checked all capacitors, swapped processors, reflowed the northbridge, then reflowed the southbridge. Still no go. If you remove the battery and short out CMOS chip for about 30sec, the system would POST, but if you would make any settings to the BIOS and save the settings, the system would not POST again. I was thinking that it was a bad CMOS, but I put too much time into the system already so I just gave up.

Hi,

If the platform is HOMA replace R138 from 1kΩ to 4.7kΩ.

@scobie21: sorry mate but no, I get this info from another forum. Another user told me that issue is located around RTC generator, thats all I know.
