    Re: Toshiba Satellite A200 Inverter

The second inverter came today and it is working fine up to this point. No flickering with this one. I think the first one must have been faulty? although it was working fine while I was waiting for the second one to come. Not bad an inverter for $5.60 and free shipping from Hong Kong. I can throw away the first one and still be in money.

Good to hear! It's had to believe that they can sell something like that for $5.60 w/free ship and still make a profit! I'm always wary of deals like that, but in your case, it looks like it worked out. Did you have to pay any duty fees?

I suggest keeping the first one for future repairs. They are pretty generic and may be useful in other laptops.

Or maybe you can jury-rig it to power up LCD ccfls?

Anyway, glad that you got it working for a cheap price.

Shipping to Canada is "duty free" from most countries if the declared value is $20 or less. I order a lot of stuff from the far east and almost all of them offer free shipping. I got a usb to ps/2 connector for 18 cents with free shipping.

I ask USA sellers to use United States Postal Service. UPS and FedEx charge $20 USD or more for "customs" processing.

I know some on this board are completely anti-ebay and suggest that sellers are crooks, counterfeiters, and theives. To a certain extent, I agree. However, with careful screening, you can get some exceptional deals. I got a working Meterman 15XP multimeter for 99 cents.

The more people think ebay is for crooks, the less competition I have when bidding for MISPRICED items. I use the same method to screen for stocks.

Good to hear that folks have had good experiences dealing with some of the overseas vendors. It make me feel more confident about ordering some of the electronic parts that seem impossible to get over here. And yes, there are crooks on Ebay, which is why it's so important to look at the seller's feedback. Also, good info about the duty fees. Thanks!

Thanks retiredcaps Great idea I will do that and thanks for the heads up on these ebay sellers of the far east. My friend is happy he got his Toshiba back for lest than 10 bucks which otherwise may have gone to the landfill.
