    Lenovo T440s fan issue

    Lenovo Thinkpad T440s
fan needs to be replaced as it works way too loud

My old fan have 5 pin connector, I`ve searched and found out that all replacement fans on the market have also 5 pin connectors but only 4 of them are wired (one is empty- the blue one).

I`ve tried fan with 4 pins but it spins 100% all the time.

Anyone was after that issue? Any thoughts how to resolve that?

PS. sadly i no longer have sticker from the old fan to write here exact model number

    Hi czacha414,
Attached please find a schematics for connector in your Lenovo 440s laptop.
As you can see pins are the following: 1: Vcc = 5V, 2: FAN_ON, 3: GROUND,
    4: FAN_FRQ, 5:FAN_ID

So you have to know on you replacement FAN, which pin number has which function and try to connect in the right way.

Thanks, so it seems that my FAN_ID signal is missing. I don`t have any clue hot to deal with that?

Honestly, I don't know what FAN_ID is. I can see in the schematics that this goes to EC.
However I can see on the internet that FANs for T440s indeed have only 4 wires even thought the connecter is 5pins. If your replacement fan always spins with full speed, this might be a sign that something other is not OK on the board.
Did you try using SpeedFan to see what it will show?

My old fan have 5 pins and spin with normal speed, not 100% all the time so I guess fan itself is the problem.
