Issues with new Surface Pro 5 screens

I have three Microsoft Surface Pro 5 model 1796, with all cracked screens.
Have bought from Aliexpress three new screens, the part numbers from my and the seller are the same:

Bad working China screen part number:

Good working own screen part number

Error I get with the bad working China screen:

No error with the good working own screen:

All the three China screens (all the same exact part numbers) produce the same error in Device manager. Have also performed a clean installation of Windows 10 Pro with the China screen, but also then the same error.
Have installed all the Windows updates and optional updates and even installed a driver pack from Microsoft for this Surface, but no differences.

I have bought the 3 screens with the Touch Screen Digitizer Connector Sub Board, but also with the board from my own good working screen, the China screens produce the same error.

Someone who recognizes this issue are has an idea for a fix?.

To me, the fault is on the tcon boards with the non-working lcds.

To confirm with 100% confidence, use a low cost I2C bus (aka smbus) bus analyzer on the I2C lines (SCL and SDA). You will know then from the bus logs, exactly why and what is failing in the handshake between the host and the tcon boards.

I think that you can use Arduino for this purpose to log the the traffic but we use Total Phase and other lab tools. Should be under $100 for sure these days.

Here is a random i2C sniffer DYI project - using the RPI2040 (aka PI ZERO) which is ~$4 USD.

        https://github.com/jjsch-dev/pico_i2c_sniffer

There are bound to be others. The good part of the RP2040 architecture is that the design features hardware activated state machines which behave like FPGA devices so can accelerate things like serial ports / sampling, etc.

Also, try some of the ideas posted here:

Wow - same issue posted here...

          https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...574f6c0?page=1

Given that the orginal LCD works - could the hardware contain some authentication device to permit or reject the use of the screen? Much like Apple / Foxconn are doing on the more recent iphones.

I honestly give Surface Pro's a wide berth, primarily because of the parts situation. I had enough of this BS with phones.

First of all, sorry for no reaction from my part (some medical issues).

Does someone has a schematic of this connector regarding the i2C and the power lines ?

Surface Pro 6 Bios (Clean Region ME + OFF motherboard)
                by Penetre
Hello everyone, I write in case you can help me with my little Surface. I am a person who wants to try to fix something and usually gets into more trouble.

I have been trying to get the materials for 8 months to be able to desolder and flash the bios. After getting the programmer and the hot air station, I killed the surface.

I have managed to extract the Bios from the chip and modify with HxD the region Me, to leave it clean, using the files of the same version.

I attach the Original files and with R.Me clean, in case someone could check,...

Surface Pro 4/5 - no touch after LCD change
                by Prott
                Hello,
I have a question that's driving me a bit nuts recently.

Is the touch board on Surface Pro 4/5 somehow married to the motherboard? I have a few Surfaces that, after the touch board change, lost all touch functionality.

                - I tried flashing the bios (simple ME clean from a known good bios, previous bios didn't have an intergrated hub enabled), reinstalling firmware, reinstalling windows and even new touch boards.
                - In one instance, after I tried to troubleshoot by using a known good screen + touch pcb combo on a Surface that lost touch, the touch board...

                Hey folks,

i have a Surface Pro 4 1724, that is not willing to charge. The current status is the following:
                • charging light is shining white
                • in windows the battery and charger are recognized (plugged in, not charging)
                • there is also no charging when the tablet is shut down
                • all other subsystems work correctly

This is what i have done so far:...

Surface Pro 4 - cycling VCC_CORE, no VCCGT
                by Prott
                Hello,
I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 (i5, 8 GB) that originaly had a swollen battery and was crashing during Windows install. I replaced the SSD with a new one (from another surface) that had OS installed. As a result of this the Windows booted, but few seconds after the start it went into "Locking" screen and turned off.

                Now the "fun" starts:

Upon removal of the motherboard from the case the fault changed:
                - When I start the tablet the VCCSA goes to 1.1 V for half a second and shuts off, followed by 1P2V_DUAL going to around...
