    USB-C question

I have a motherboard that I am trying to repair. I have a know good USB-C charger with a light on it plugged into a USB-C ammeter. When I plug this cable combination into the board the light stays on the charger but the ammeter does not turn on.

Does that sound like the port is bad? Is there a way I can check the continuity on the port, or will that matter?

I posted this in the wrong forum. Can someone move this for me?

      Re: USB-C question

A well behaved USB Type C port will permit the USB Type C meter to display the power on default voltage of 5 volts + the current draw. This current draw may be any value from 0mA or higher.

If the display on the meter goes dark, there is a hardware fault on the Type C connector.

Which motherboard / widget are you testing?

If you are mating with a removable paddle board / cable? If yes, remove it from the main board and test again.

Thank you for the reply mon2.

Would the ammeter still turn on if I removed it from the motherboard and then plugged it into just the port? I removed the ammeter and just plugged the USB-c charging cable into the port and tried measuring the voltage on the pins. At one point I was getting about 3.3v on one of the pins but now have been unable to repeat that. Would you say that the port is bad? I will remove one that I know works and test that as well. Thanks for your help!
