    Asus STRIX GL703GE keyboard issue

I need help in troubleshooting an Asus STRIX GL703GE. This laptop has no working keyboard and keyboard lights. Device Manager does not show any keyboard at all (it shows a USB keyboard if connected, but not built in). The touchpad and ON/OFF button are ok. I checked keyboard circuitry on a motherboard, and everything seems to be good except there is no KBL_EN signal on pin #64 of IT8296E120A Keyboard Controller (U23, +3V_S5 is present). Pin #63 LED_PWR#_KB has 3.6V. Pin #1 on KCN1 KB CONN has 5.1V, pins #7-30 have 2.5V. G524 Power Distribution Switch (U24) is not shorted: pin #5 - 5v, pin #4 - 0V, pin #1 - 0V.
KBID1 not present (pin#36 - KCN1 KB CONN and pin#8 - U23), KR133 and KR91 are ok. Replacement keyboard brings the same issue.

Does that mean U23 IT8296E_LQFP-64 chip is faulty? If so, is it necessary to program new IT8296E chip?

Does the keyboard work in the bios?

No. But the keyboard itself is good.

Remove all power. Measure the resistance to ground of KBL_EN.

        Also check in DIODE mode.

Meter in diode mode. Red meter lead, yes red to ground.

        Black meter probe to KBL_EN.

        What is the reading?

            Ok readings.

What is the voltage to ground of pin #13 (wrst#) on the EC? (U23)

The KBL_EN is for the keyboard backlight leds.

The keyboard will be a detection of passive keys being scanned in x&y directions. Is U23 warmer than usual?

Is it being powered on every rail.

              pin #13 - 0.12V

              KR43 - 99kOhm
              KC44 not shorted

U23 is not warmer as usual.

P.S. I've motherboard removed from the laptop --> +5V_S5, +3V_S5 are missing. Let me assemble it.

                +3V_S5 are missing
Yes and this is causing this EC controller to remain in reset state.

                WRST# = active low signal and pin #13 - 0.12V = RESET state.

Confirm again after this line is ~3 volts = out of reset state.

OK, the laptop is on: pin #13 - 3.28V

                    Hello guys!
I have a strange issue with my laptop keyboard and I'm lost trying to detect what's wrong - the KB9028Q-C or the keyboard itself.
It powers on OK and has no other issues except the following:
                    • CAPS LOCK does not work at all
                    • Fn button toggles Flight Mode
                    • When I press 't' or '5', it produces 't5', and when I press 'y' or '6', it produces 'y6'
                    • (with SHIFT pressed: 't%' and 'y^' respectively)
I initially thought it was a keyboard malfunction (internal short, etc.),
but when I press and hold...

820-02020 Super Weird Issue: Keyboard Input Character Map "Wrong"?
                    by ugamazing
So, I have a really bizarre issue that I'm struggling to identify the cause of. Working on an 820-02020 board with some bizarre keyboard/input-source character mapping. My suspicion is a possible damaged SPI ROM (U1970), perhaps, but I'm really not sure in this case:

                    1. The issue is pretty weird, but when installing MacOS, I noticed my WiFi password did not work. I quickly realized the special characters (!@#$%^& etc) were not mapping correctly.

                    2. I noticed the keyboard layout/input-source is defaulting to JAPANESE every single time I restore the board. I am not...

ASUS ROG Strix G713QR - Keyboard, backlight and side LEDs don't work
                    by hollox123
Hello, I have an "ASUS ROG Strix G713QR" laptop, and for approx. 3 months I have the following problems:

                    1. Laptop keyboard doesn't work
                    2. The backlight on the laptop keyboard doesn't work
                    3. The x2 side LEDs (red) on the laptop don't work

The power button works, the touchpad works, and all the USB, HDMI, Ethernet, etc. ports work.

I already tried to reinstall all the drivers and reinstall Windows. So I don't know what to try anymore that is software-related.

But I am strongly aiming that it is somehow a BIOS-related problem,...
