Download the bios from HP: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp885...00/sp88541.exe
Extract the exe using 7-zip or winrar.In the extracted folder look inside the DOS Flash folder for J01_0232.BIN .Thats your full 8,192KB bios .

Well that doesn't contain the boot block; which is why I specifically asked for a dump from a working machine.

Its the full bios.If you can`t backup or write to the flash descriptor you should remove all power and the bios battery. What model is your programmer,and are you using a sop8 clip .

What program are you using in that second screenshot?

The machine does work; but after the first boot, it takes a long time to start up. There is something that gets modified in the BIO's after I boot with a fresh image from HP.

This machine was compromised; especially the BIOS and I was worried that something else was also compromised that would modify the BIOS from another piece of code on another programmable part on the machine. I figured if I put in a BIOS that already is initialized and works on another machine, it won't update like it does. All theory here. UEFI is all new to me.

Right now my machine seems to take longer to boot up than it did before it was hacked and I suspect there may be something else compromised.

Use HP BCU Bios Config Utility to check/alter your bios settings: https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp585...00/sp58888.exe

I've used that tool.

When I click on the descriptor is shows a similar screen, but does now show the chip brands and part numbers like yours. This could be because we are using different versions of UEFITool or it can be because we are looking at two different BIOS versions. The version I have is v0.25.1 and the BIOS I installed is J01_0228.bin. I know there is a newer version which you have posted, but this one should work as well.

I believe I tried that update and it wouldn't update. Then I tried using the other tool to detect and mitigate, but that wouldn't work either. Said something about a driver may be missing or something like that.

I'm willing to try it again, but I've since gave up on Windblows and am now using Linux Mint as an OS. So unless this would work on FreeDOS, I don't know if there's another alternative that wouldn't require installing Windblows.

Right now I'm afraid to even use the on board NIC as it is fully alive and working after I shut my machine down, so I am using a USB NIC instead. I'd like to be able to use the on board NIC again because it supports 1Gb, while the USB can't.
