Hello all,
I'm trying desperately to revive a ThinkStation P720 that I purchased from a seller who claims it suffered a "failed firmware update."
When given power, the machine turns on, spins up fans, beeps a single time, fans slow down, then a beep code is sounded repeatedly (3 high/short tones, 1 low/long tone).
Type: 30BB
Model Number: S03600
S/N: MJ07N68C
Things I have tried:
1. Reseated all components, pulled everything except for 2 RAM modules (1 per CPU)
2. Attempted to boot with just a single CPU and RAM module
3. Set CMOS/Recovery jumper and attempted to boot with recovery media as outlined in Lenovo HW Maintenance Manual
4. Removed CMOS battery, dumped firmware from 25Q256JVFQ BIOS flash chip
- Re-flashed with cleaned ME region image (built with Intel FIT)
- Re-flashed with fresh Lenovo BIOS region from Lenovo support website (extracted with BIOSUtilities)
- Re-flashed with both cleaned ME and fresh BIOS region
- Re-flashed with bios provided from this post
- Re-flashed with image processed by me_cleaner
5. Dumped firmware from W25X40CL "SIO" Super I/O Flash Chip
- Re-flashed with SIO firmware update from Lenovo support website
6. Jumped un-populated "ME_DIS" pads found on board
All of these steps resulted in the same failure (3 high/short tones, 1 low/long tone) - although somewhere along the way, when given power, the system started power cycling once before emitting the tones (power on w/ fans, quick beep, power off, power on w/ fans, repeated error beeps).
Also, when I flashed the image processed by me_cleaner, the system did not turn on at all - no fans, no error tones, nothing.
I'm attaching my original, unmodified dump of the BIOS chip if it's of any help.
Any guidance would be very greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
