    Asus P8Z77-M Cap Identification

We have an Asus P8Z77-M motherboard with a cap knocked off it.

    This is the cap:

    This is where it belongs:

I know it's a 270 UF 16V cap, but what else do I need to know, and what's a good source for a replacement?

I don't know when the cap got knocked off, the machine runs fine without it. For all I know it's been missing for the past two years, but I want to fix it.

    Re: Asus P8Z77-M Cap Identification

That's all you should need to know. Ther's some difference in the codes as far as esr reading, you probably want to replace similar low esr caps...so if it has letters you probably want to match those too I guess? But my guess is that it won't matter too much. I just bought a bunch of replacement caps for one of my boards and they threw in like a ton of caps with different letters signifying the esr rating I guess?

It does look like it's a vrm cap though, but not directly going to the cpu, maybe it's part of the +1 or +2 of your pwm..and its going nowhere? Looks like you have 6 phase I think on your board?

Oh yeah, it's a 6+2, so my guess is that's the two +2's, since it looks like they don't really go anywhere. They're either memory or chipset power I guess? I'm still not clear on what the +2 part of the phases do, just learning more about mobo design myself.
