Hello people,
Our service bay had what appears to be a stereo amplifier that went on the fritz and fried two Dell Optiplex 3080's that were plugged into the same UPS. I never seen such a situation.
Anyways the computers do not power on. A replacement power supply didnt resolve the issue when this occurred a few years ago. I want to try to revive one now.
I plugged the faulty computer into a 40w and 60w dim bulb, which flashed several times before it stopped without any power button interaction. The green LED lite on the PS then went dark afterwards. The PS fan never moved. I measure 12v on all the PS pins and 5v on one another, there is a gray pin reading .5v. This tells me standby should be ok. I would like to switch the PS on to confirm its operation. How is that accomplished with PS out of unit, do i short out the gray wire? I am familiar doing so with a regular ATX PS but not this Dell micro PS.
I imagine the motherboard has faulty MOSFETS due to the sudden energy surge, I see 4 near the power switch headers. This a good place to start troubleshooting the board?
