    Asus M3A79-T Deluxe Capacitor Replacement

Hey guys. I just recovered a motherboard which I am not completely sure works, but I noticed has a capacitor missing. It is located near the PCI slots, and from the images I have gathered online it seems to have the same printing like some of those around it.

    It has this:
Some obscure F in between two lines
    89He
    101
    16

I am kind of lost and any help in the direction of where to find a replacement, or what to buy would be greatly appreciated. I hope to recover this board since it seems reasonably nice. Thanks guys for the help.

Those with F between horizontal bars are Nichicon FP-CAP ... functional polymer capacitors.

The lowest number is the voltage rating. In your case 16 means 16 volts.
The number above is the capacitance, where the last digit is the number of zeroes after the first two digits. So in your case, 101 means 100 uF .... 561 means 560uF and so on

That capacitor doesn't seem to be super important, there's just a basic linear regulator near it. They probably used polymer capacitors just to advertise the whole board as having "Japanese solid capacitors"

Digikey or Mouser have them, any of these will work:

When installing it, make sure you put it the right way. Asus has the polarity markings on the board inverted. Usually that filled section of the circle is for negative (the bar on the capacitor), on Asus they do it the other way around.

Thanks mariushm! That is of great help. So if I were to install this capacitor would I run into any major problems with the multi-layered copper of the motherboard?

No, don't think you'll have problems. Would help to have a good soldering iron.
