Need help locating problem on ASUS M2N-MX SE Plus

    Hi

I have this motherboard i have laying around that i swapped out cause it was acting up. Thought id build a surf machine for my mother. On to the issue im having.

The motherboard in question turns itself off. What i mean by that is that the machine completely dies, just as if someone forcibly turned the power off. It will work for a few minutes at best and just a few seconds at worst.

Have tried swapping out the PSU and stuff so i know the problem is with the motherboard.

Took it out and started probing around with my ESR meter to see if i could find something wrong. When measuring the 4 caps next to the PSU i get only resistance and no capacitance (measuring in circuit). Is this normal? i would think it should give me some capacitance even if the wrong one?

If you think its the caps can you help me identify make/model/uF rating so i can find a replacement.

In general, measuring any component in circuit is highly unreliable. The components may be in parallel or be affected by the surrounding circuit/other components.

For the board shutting down, try reseating and apply new thermal paste on the CPU. I had this once and I found out that the CPU was not seated properly. It helps if the BIOS can display CPU temperature or give an audible warning over a threshold as you can see/hear it quickly rise.

If you are new to this forum, we can help a lot more if you please post clear focused pictures (max resolution 2000x2000 and 2MB) of your boards using the manage attachments button so they are hosted here. Information and picture clarity compositions should look like this post.

We respectfully ask that you make some time and effort to read some of the guides available for basic troubleshooting. After you have read through them, then ask clarification questions or report your findings.

Please do not post inline and offsite as they slow down the loading of pages.
