    Can I use a 1800uf 6.3v 8mm x 20mm to replace a 1800uf 6.3v 8mm X 24mm? This is off a cheap compaq MB

      as long as the you found the correct replacement as far as voltage and uF the diamater and height don't matter if you have the room on your board. And going by what you posted the only difference is the height in the capacitor and your going with a shorter capacitor no problems there:.
