    Mag model 2600

Hi folks. Anyone got some pointers for this one? I temporarily replaced four of eight 100uf 35 volt caps. (the four remaining passed ESR with flying colours, but when I get get my parts order in all eight wil be replaced). I did this as a check to see if the problem persists. It apparantly does. The SMPS checks out ok. The monitor will still only flash once in a blue moon. All fuses ok. Nothing is noticably running hot, or burnt. There is a turn on signal from the "control" board. Good, stable 24 volts to the inverter. (normal for this monitor) Any ieas?

Patience is a virtue. Even those of us without a real life sometimes have obligations that prevent jumping right in with an answer.

What have you done between the first and second posts? Are the fuses good? Did you compare the voltages on the OZ960GK with the datasheet? Did you try substituting CCFLs? Did you search for a schematic? (OK, forget the schematic. I'd take a miracle to find one.)

Didn't mean to sound impatient. Yes the fuses are all fine, as are the MOSFET drivers. I still must look up the IC datasheet. In the meantime I removed the mainboard and found many bad surface mount caps! I don't know if this will affect the inverter's operation, but looks like I will have to repair the mainboard, so I will need to order more caps. At that point I set it aside to persue other repairs. (A Sony receiver, and a JVC amplifier). I will devise a test scheme for the inverter board, and check it out with the datasheet next. Thanks, I'll keep you posted.

What kind of caps are those you used anyway?

the caps I put on the board are ones I had here, branded EKM, all measured less than one on the esr meter. the reason for doing tis was to confirm if this was the only problem. I will be replacing all 8 with high quality low esr parts.

It may be that replacing the bad caps on the main board will fix the problem. The 'flash only once in a blue moon' problem sounds more like a logic board (main board) problem than an inverter board problem.

Did you take out the MOSFETs (packaged like an IC)? Outboard tests are needed. OZ960GN rarely fails. If ok, go back to the supply board.

Vaillant 242 Gas Water heater. Shortcut in board anc compatibility with model 282
                    by edugimeno
                    Hi!!
Yesterday I was installing a new Wifi thermostat for my domestic gas water heater model Vaillant 242/2-3, and accidentlly one wire from mains touched one wire from the thermostat output contacts. This shut off the heater so I finished installing the thermostat and then went out to check the heater

I found one fuse blown (T2 250V). Replaced it with another equivalent fuse and it blew right away. I measured L-N in mains input and I sometimes got 4K but sometimes, not sure why, I got 100 Ohm...
At a certain point, moving stuff around, I put all wires back in place and...
