The far left pin has a fracture line. Even if the VFD display soldering looks ok, resolder them anyway.
Then go upstream and check other connections. Like the jumpers, connector pins, even one Kenwood I fixed it was the power transformer pin where the bad connection was for the display filament power loss.
You have to check JR121 might not be soldered on one end.

With no pics of the other end area of the board, hard to nail it.

Those look ok, but what about the ones on the other end of the display?

All sorted now. It did turn out to be the one on the other end. Sorry I forgot to take a photo to post.

These ones. Just do not solder the legs together when you solder them.

Thanks for sharing that picture! I'm another STR-DN1070 owner, and this helped to solve the problem. (To future onlookers: it makes a lot of sense once you look on the other side of the PCB, as those are all of the display pins.)

Posting as I found this thread while searching for experience with my STR-DH740.

As it turns out, I found 3 cracked solder joints, redid them and my display is now working - thanks!

I should have taken photos but I got excited and forgot. Happy to save myself $600.

Hi, newbie here. I too have this issue and the posts and photos are really helpful, however I’m wondering how easy is it to disassemble to get at the display.

New member here. Thank you all for this great forum.

I found this thread with a google search and realized it had the answer to something bedeviling me for a least a year.

The problem is the same as the other posters, an intermittent (fritzy) display on a Sony A/V receiver. Mine is the STR-DH540 purchased in 2014.

Got tired of tapping the top of the receiver to get it to light up.

A 15-watt Radio Shack pencil soldering iron and a little solder on the affected filaments as described by redwire in post #3 and voila! Much joy.
