    Re: Focusrite 6i6 - upgrade/mod

I'm not even sure i've seen film caps much greater than 10uF or so. I'm quite certain the biggest value in my parts bin is about 6.8uf

Well, all of your opinons suck and mine is better!!!

HAHAHAH! Seriously though, thank you for clarifying that. Fair enough. So I think I'll go with the YXF just because you replied first Unless Khron can find film caps of the appropriate value that fit, since he replied first to the original post

Does this 2,200uF look right: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSea...29152879207702

The next step down was 1,000uF: http://www.digikey.com/product-detai...896-ND/3563785

Either would be a very tight fit, but with a bit of silicone and leaving the leads long for placement I think they could both work, barely.

Don't worry, i won't - something like 10uF/63v film caps would be approaching the volume of one of the combo XLR connectors

I am not sure if the OPAMPS are the only thing that affects getting a strong and clean signal out of a microphone... but I am using microphones in my front inputs and would love to get a stronger and cleaner signal for this one mic that needs a lot of gain. So, is there a way to identify the OPAMPS for the two front XLR inputs? Might also be worth mentioning that out of the two XLR inputs the one on the far left ("01") is noticeably more noisy.
Better op amps can reduce distortion and improve clarity. I've replaced op amps in my Echo Gina 24 and TC Impact Twin with measurable improvements in RMAA. Also, replacing and/or bypassing electrolytic coupling capacitors with high quality film caps can improve transparency; electrolytics in the signal path are kind of "grungy" sounding. However, bear in mind that surface mount boards can be tricky to work on and if you destroy the traces that might spell the end of your interface.

Probably worth reading the recommendations made by Jim Williams (on gearslutz).

              Good luck!
