    looks like we have a winner ... AGND to 52 inch vertical wire ..audio ground to usb shell ...its working a bit too good now .. its clear at around a mile and breaking up a bit at 1 mile and over but still odd places its clear at a mile or over . not bad for a little thing intended for in car use ...
    here is a pic of the finished job .sorry pic is sideways .

      1 mile is very good range. Usually the circuit design starves the FM power amp (high value collector resistors or small capacitance) in order to limit output power for regulatory (FCC) approvals.
      The only time I know of that kind of range is tuning radio stations in my car I picked up a bingo hall announcer's wireless microphone. "Under the N fifty twoooooo" lol.
      Using small FM transmitters is popular for outdoor parties, raves etc so everyone can tune in to the DJ.
