    Surface Mount Diodes

I have a CD player that is dead. I found a zener diode surface mount diode. The part number is UDZ27B. It is a very small part. I measured across it and it measured 3 ohms. I figured it could just be a part in parallel, so I removed it and tested it out of circuit. It still measures 3 ohms both ways. So does this mean I found the bad part. I have NEVER seen these fail before.

Yes it's bad and diodes often do fail shorted.

      It's possible that it's bad.

Are you using the diode function on your DMM?

You should read low resistance in one direction and high resistance in the other direction, getting matching resistance in both direction would indicate that it is bad.

Are there other zener diodes like the one you found bad that you could do a reference measurement?

I measured a similar part and it measured normal (low one way, high the other)
I did use the diode test on my fluke.

Does anyone know where I can order these? Can't find them at mouser or digikey.

I believe this might be a suitable replacement.

Sorry I gave the wrong part number. The actual part number is 224492700R2, I gave the part description.

                still the same,

It can either be UDZ27B or UDZS27B.

                      thanks professor.
