the chinese sell control modules on Ali for peanuts.
thats not the issue, the issue is if you get it wrong the mosfets or IGBT's are very expensive and all blow together.
because the module handles "dead time" between the pairs and when shit goes bad you get both oposing semiconductors turning on together and shorting the output.

would I take the opportunity as a freebie or ten bucks and have a go at it? Yes, I would.
After all he is trying to sell you something broken. For less than $320 bucks you can buy a new one with warranty, To me it's a typical eBay rip off sellers taking advantage. Put it this way, he either has to pay someone $160 bucks or more to fix it, or he doesn't recoup any money and puts it in the e-waste.
Make him a $20 offer.
