I'm about to just junk this thing and grab a Hakko FX-888, but figured I would see if anyone had an idea to fix this thing.
It's a WES50, and recently (past 24 hours) it just started heating up regardless of what I seem to set the analog temperature control knob to. I see it to 50 (500 degrees as I understand it) and the tip starts to glow red. I tried using the calibration procedure but maybe I am doing it wrong? I hold the magnetic tip at the ESD symbol, turn the analog dial to the temperature I believe the tip is at (again, just was trying to attempt to calibrate, wasn't trying to be 100% accurate), and then remove the magnetic tip. But this fails to change anything - if I turn the dial down to it's lowest setting, the tip is still glowing red.
Ideas? I looked at replacing the PES50 pen, but it's almost expensive as a new unit.
