  • Problem with Weller WES50 - ideas?

I'm about to just junk this thing and grab a Hakko FX-888, but figured I would see if anyone had an idea to fix this thing.

It's a WES50, and recently (past 24 hours) it just started heating up regardless of what I seem to set the analog temperature control knob to. I see it to 50 (500 degrees as I understand it) and the tip starts to glow red. I tried using the calibration procedure but maybe I am doing it wrong? I hold the magnetic tip at the ESD symbol, turn the analog dial to the temperature I believe the tip is at (again, just was trying to attempt to calibrate, wasn't trying...

  • Re: Hanns-G HG281D, LCD Monitor no power

Well I just fixed one of my monitors this weekended. Replaced the usual suspects mentioned in this thread on the power board, but what finally did it was replacing some on the logic board.

Bad news is I went to do the second monitor I have (same model), and my Weller WES50 went crazy - heats up to maximum temperature. I didn't noticed until I had badly burned some of the leads/holes. I got it back together and working fine, but needless to say I'm none to happy with Weller and need a new iron.

Should I replace all caps on all boards, or just the power board? Any place I can get a list of caps for my boards as well? I figure I can then just go order from Digikey.

Probably pick up a hot air rework station as well, unless you guys think this is a minor enough job to do it without one. I have a basic, older Weller soldering station that seems to work pretty well....

I'm in a similar position to others that have posted. My monitor only has issues when it is asleep and then wakes up, or was switched off and you turn it back on.

It comes on, then starts flashing and making a popping sound, until finally doing something like changing the resolution brings it back from the dead. While this on/off flashing routine is happening, the power light stays blue on the monitor.

Hoping I can follow what has been discussed previously and fix this thing. I have a good soldering iron, just...
