    Intel DQ35JOE Leaking KZJ caps

    Hello everyone,

I have an intel motherboard that has 3 leaking 1800uF 6.3V KZJ caps near the ATX connector, and from reading this forum I have found out that the replacement for these would be the Nichicon HN 6.3v 1800uF 8X20mm caps.
However, I was wondering if it would be ok to use poly caps instead, particularly the Nichicon LG Polymer 6.3v 1800uF 10X13mm.

I also noticed this board has 5 KZG caps (470uF and 680uF 16V) which from what I gather here, should also be replaced. What would suitable replacements for these be? Looks like the 470uF ones would be replaced with Nichicon HN 470uF (Am I correct?), but for the larger capacity 680uF there seems to be more choices at capking (Rubycon MCZ, WXA, UCC KZE and Nichicon HZ)

There are also a lot of small 470uF 6.3V KY caps, not sure I want to touch those as they all look fine and there are too many of them.

You can use polymer capacitors rated for 4v instead of the 1800uF 6.3v electrolytics.
They use 6.3v electrolytics because that's the lowest popular/common value for electrolytics - the voltage in that area is around 1-1.5v so 4v rating is more than enough.

With polymer capacitors, you could go down to 1500uF or even lower, so if you don't find some 1800uF 4v or 1800uF 6.3v cheap, you can go with 1500uF. I wouldn't sweat even with 1200uF but you should find 1500uF-1800uF easily.

The 16v rated capacitors are not that critical, I wouldn't look for some hard to find nowadays capacitors. UCC KZE should be fine, just as Panasonic FM or FR would also be fine.
If you don't have a really shitty power supply, you could also use 270-330uF 16v polymer capacitors instead of the 470uF ones. For the 680uF, you can use 470uF polymers but those are probably expensive. I'd just use 680-820uF electrolytics.

IDK if you can call intel and tell them about it... if they can RMA your board for free.

Thanks, I'll try that. Not sure if they will take it since I don't have my receipt handy, but worth a shot.

Keeping with the board recap, I think I'll just stick to regular caps, I don;t want to go too off-spec.

So just to confirm, are these correct replacements for the 1800uF 6.3V KZJ, 470uF 16V KZG and 680uF 16V KZG respectively? Price isn't a huge deal if it goes a few dollars either way, shipping still costs more than the parts for me.
