    Acer V3-771G-6485...am I screwed?

So i've had this 'nick' on my power cable for a while. I wasn't worried about it, as the laptop side of this power brick has a VERY stiff and rugged cable. It alsmost looks like someone took a exacto knife to it and just cut about 40% of the diameter but not very hard. It's been there for a while, months. Given me no problem

Last night I was updating my GPS and it scratched against my leg I decided to take a close look at it. It was deeper. When I got close, I bended it a little bit to look inside it (remember it was a very slim cut). Suddenly the crack was filled with electric arcs...for about 2 seconds. I heard a beep from my laptop, the beep this laptop makes when you take the plug out. I thought Crap, I need another adapter. I got this 120W HP adapter I use with everything (and have used on this laptop before)....nothing

oh god...did the arc blow the fuse or varistor? The laptop continued to work fine, and finished updating my GPS luckily with 40% juice left. I tried another adapter (79W toshiba, tried it with the laptop off to see if the charge light would come on). Nothing.

So, a replacement board is about $168. I'm looking into possibly buying my cousins sons asus gaming laptop from him (price still being negotiated). I have a customers Vostro 3500 here i've had for 2 years since he bought 2 new ultrabooks and didn't really need it, hasn't asked about it, and it's just been lying around (20% battery wear though). It's my temp machine and what i'm typing this on

sooo, i'm guessing this is a surface mount fuse? any idea of where to start looking. The laptop does run fine...but when the battery is out...it's out

if I do manage to get another laptop I would like to try and fix the acer to sell. Where should I start looking on the motherboard? I think the power jack is external (off-board)

    truly pissed,
    -U

The damage should not be very deep. Maybe an open fuse or a spiked MOSFET in the Vin circuitry. Can you find a schematic for the model? You can check for voltage where the wires from the DC socket connect to the mainboard.

if it's the fuse, think it's a bad idea to just put a solder ball across the points after knocking the fuse off with my iron?

          123-? V
          4-? V
          5678-? V
          also what is the resistance?

          also the q8802 ?

may i know i have encounter before totally no power.
