Hi good people,my son brought me a computer with an old version of Linux 1604 that when goes through booting process it stuck on terminal ,[SDB] Asking for cache failed ,some times after a lot of rebooting and repairing in the recovery it goes to desktop, it takes a few tries to boot to desktop , it wont update and can't transfer files to usb or cdR can't connect to internet,it just wont do normal functions,i want to transfer pictures from this HDD to a USB or CD how can i go about to connect this hard drive to a working computer and collet these pics,or try to fix this ops.thanks

Just connect it as a second drive in the working computor, It will show up as a second hard drive and you can copy the pictures. Or use a live cd (bootable copy of linux) and boot from the cd, the hard drive content should be accessibleLast edited by R_J; 02-25-2021, 11:57 AM. -

I thought I'd throw out some of my personal experiences in the last 12 months with Intel iMacs, 2.5" SATA SSD drives and Fusion drive data recoveries.
As a backgrounder, Apple never fitted a 2.5" SSD's to these iMacs. Apple's SSD option was a system of 32GB NVMe blade drive (NGFF connector) and Seagate 1TB 2.5" HDD, married together in software to become a Fusion drive. Non Fusion systems have just the 1TB Seagate HDD.

So I've worked on dozens of HP and Dell laptops and have never encountered this before.
Steps taken in my usual process.
Reset security settings in the BIOS
Ensure existing HD comes up into the OS
Shut down the laptop and disconnected the main battery
Removed old M2 drive and replaced with a new 1tb Mushkin Temptest NVME drive. (I'm aware the bus is Sata III but the drive should still work at a slower speed right? Been my experience in other laptops)
Replace battery connector and close up the laptop
Insert my USB drive with my Windows 10 image I've... -
