    essential tool

here is one tool which will probably save your ass many times, especially if do electrical wiring a lot like i do in a shitty old office building.

its the Fluke 1AC Volt Alert.

Basically you run it along the outside of a cable and it will tell you if the cable is live before you cut it and fry your ass. you have to run it along a few places of a cable before you are sure though. i usually do 3 places, top and under. yes it has saved my ass a few times INCLUDING TODAY for which i do not regret spending $20. (shock horror....yes fluke is expensive but for safety equipment i couldnt give a shit about the cost. just want the best)

    Re: essential tool

want some other fluke kit but the budget is not doing it this year. this all came about again cos i was reading the fluke catalog at dinnner after my saved mishap today. i am such a geek but i can make a great pizza....

so it is the fluke microscanner pro. an ethernet tester. i have a shitty taiwan one which cost only a few bucks but i think it is an essential if you are laying cable. made me fix a cable one time only which is quite assuring about my technique. anyway the fluke can tell you at what distance the cable was damaged (which is not so useful maybe cos if i cannot get a signal after retermination i just trash the cable) can also measure the distance of cables which is good if you are doing gigabit installations and also flash the switch port leds to show which cable is connected to that port (yes i could use that also)

if you get the VDV kit you get amongst other things a toner which as toners do determine which cable is which in that goddamn mess. i might get one of those one day.

anyway it is all too damn expensive

shitty taiwan lan tester and a 9v battery and buzzer is doing me ok so far.
