    simple mod to OEM coolers

I was messing around with the Emachines T3624 I got for free, i put a 2.4ghz p4 in it. I ran some programs like pie calc and stuff to see how hot the cpu got. With the stock settings and heatsink with AS5, it ran about 32C idle, 54C load (do to emachines setting the fan speeds to 30% until 65C.) When I manually set the fan speed to 100% in speedfan, it stayed about 31C idle, and got to about 50C full load, but caused the North Bridge to raise from 44C to 64C!

So I did a simple little mod, I flipped the 60mm fan upside down to pull air through the heatsink and into the side case opening. Now, at fan speed at 30% it ran at 29C idle, and 44C load, and at 100% it ran 27C idle, and about 42C full load, while keeping the Northbridge at 42-43C, and must be better for the caps and vrm around the heatsink to not have the hot air blown onto them.

My P4 3.2ghz is currently idling at 54C. Under load, i've seen it close to 80C. I've got AS-5 on the way, should be here tomorrow.
    Ludicrous gibs!

VRM depends upon air flow for cooling. It is an Intel specification.

There are a number of down-draft coolers on the market that will do a wonderful job of CPU + VRM cooling. Check out www.frostytech.com for a complete series of extensive reviews.

Free or not, it is pointless to run your processor and bridge chips hot. Look into the Rocket V Cooler at Newegg. They are $9.99 USD and work like a champ. I install them in my own machines, and hot-rod client machines. They cool the video card, but also hit the 'bridge chips.

In the end, the final temps are the decision maker. If your situation works better Sucking instead of Blowing, all the better. The Alpha PAL8045 in my AMD systems is a Sucker by design.

Testing ATX PSUs under load - Does loading the ATX 24 pin also load EPS & PCIE?
        by AJ847.63e
        Hi Folks,

Just wanted to clear up a misunderstanding of mine (or what I expect is one). Isn't the 12V rail from the 24 pin, EPS and PCIE separated? IE if I put a power resistor on the ATX 12V pin that is not going to load, thus tell me if the EPS or PCIE rails are fine?

I was recently watching ArIs from Hardware Busters video on how to properly test ATX PSUs without using 5 figure Croma substations.

The PCB adapter he used breaks out the 12, 5 and 3.3V pins from the 24 pin and gives you banana plugs to connect to. That is a bit useless is it not? Aren't...
