    Almost done but need opinion

After some swearing, one proliant 1600 server, pinch fingers and scraped knuckels I finally have a nearly completed home server.
Not only did i show me the ways that companies make their stuff proprietary it has also acted as a learning tool.

Here it is minus the 10 gig ditto drive, the front console (i'm still building that) and the 5-bay disk array.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rver/front.jpg

From one side. Not no cables coming out of the PSU, I'm currently looking for a replacement board after the first one bit the dust in a badcap fit that took out it's last drive.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rver/side2.jpg

The back with almost all the cards in place and my infamous everex tape drive connected to it's controller card.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...erver/rear.jpg

The other side showing the stick I needed to install to hold the new motherboard in place. Also note the new mounting bolts on the metal frame under the motherboard.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rver/side1.jpg

Finally one of my best uses ever for small switches...Replacing the key on the front of my hotswap drive. It works but can only be installed on the top drive slot.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...ver/switch.jpg

    Now for my problems.
You may of alreay seen it but this board was not made for this case.

The CPU riser is too big.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...erver/size.jpg

...and the board conforms (somewhat) to ATX standards and this is an AT case.
    http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...rver/uncut.jpg

I need ideas on how to cut the back of the case to hold a connector faceplate at the least and a way to reshape the side of the case cover (it's U-shaped and made from steel like the frame) so it looks good from the front, side and back.
I got no dremel and limited access to a school metal shop.
    What's your input?

Make a proper drawing and I'll laser cut you a faceplate for it

Not something just scribbed down on paper though, most prefferable with a solid file like an IGES or something similar but an Autocad drawing works too (but then I'll have to do allot of work...)

Sounds like a good idea but it sounds expensive.
I'll whip out my calipers and a spare plate tonight to make some measurements.

That being checked off, what about the extruding cpu board?

I sure hope it works after all the effort you put forth. Its amazing the efforts we go through to keep an old system alive... I was given a complete supermicro server last week with a p3tdde dual tualatin board and 1gb RAM........ It's now a backup server after a quick recapping!! For such an old system, it's still damn snappy....

What CPU's do you have for that thing?

I'm thinking either two (pentium pro) 200mhz chips with 512k caches or if I am a rebel go all the way with dual 233mhz with 1 mb caches.

Were talking about for the panel?
Give me some time and I can whip up a layout with dimensions and spacings.
