seems that on some upgrades the upgrade fails with the following message
and then goes into a loop......trying to upgrade....failed...trying to upgrade...failed
the problem appears to be the dll mozMapi32.dll which is located in /program files/mozilla thunderbird
the solution is to uninstall thunderbird 1.5.0.8
delete the contents of /program files/mozilla thunderbird
go into safe mode and delete the mozmapi32.dll
reboot and install 1.5.0.9
the settings are not stored there so they are restored immediately
