    WD Caviar Black

A few years ago I built a htpc with two drives, one Wd Caviar Black and one WD Caviar Green.

Before I fitted the wd green I took care of the spin down with widdle to make sure the drive would last longer.

Pretty much once every 3 months the last two years this machine has had a bluescreen or locked up. I have checked everything several times, smart logs looks nice, memtest is no problem, changed memory, changed psu, reinstalled and so on.

And now when the machine locked up I took it apart to see if it was possible to backup the 2TB green driver - I was pretty sure it was to blame but no, backed up the drive and had no problems. Did a backup of the black 750GB too and had no problems and decided to check the drives with Wd's test program.

During quick test of the WD black my Enermax for the first time in 8 years starts beeping, the drive is quite loud but difficult to hear on a recording I did.

Strange, every time I run the quick test my enermax start beeping.

During extended test I moved the drive and noticed a strange sound and at the same time wd test program stopped checking sectors, if I continue to move the drive it spins down and start again after a while.

I have never seen this before ever, I know it's not a smart thing to wiggle the drive but I know something is messing with my htpc and it had to be this drive.

I guess it's not a smart thing to only trust the hd smart logs.

Yes, you shouldn't only trust the SMART logs, but in this case, yours is actually showing problems. You have 13 pending sectors - that's not good!
