My toshiba sat melted

The Satelite laptop was caught in a storm and died.
I found these two power MOS FET's had melted right off the board in a green mush.
I had a couple of similar chips on a dead dell and soldered them in
So it doesn't look good but works perfect again.

Good job Jim most ppl would of scrapped that Laptop but you managed to fix it. It really doesn't take moister long to destroy circuits I've seen devices that completed rotted out connections like you mentioned.Sometimes you can clean the circuit and even fix the bad circuit boards. I've had rare parts that the pins were rotted or broken and I scraped the pin area down till I could wrap wire around the metal and solder them to the board.Believe it or not I had one TV that had a board that was busted in many places and I managed to fix it.It was like a maze with all the copper circuitry and solder joints that were broken.

I'am new to this forum but I find it interesting, helpful. It's nice that ppl can ask questions and share their knowledge.

Oh I forgot to ask if anybody has had this problem with Toshiba Satellite Laptops model L305. I've 3 of these laptops and two I managed to repair that either didn't boot up or had no video.Mostly it was a matter of cleaning and over hauling them both seem to have the same issue.You can turn them on they work just fine mouse etc and later once hot they both end up with extreme mouse issues. I've tried using different drivers for it and even a different touch pad but they both still act up when the laptop gets full warmed up.My resolve is this I will try to put some muffler tape over the touch pad circuit boards to shade them from the heat.Maybe once I manage to get some of that tape and have the time will post my results.Note I do suspect that the boards might have another issue directly affecting the touch pads but shielding them could help.
