    HP wireless mouse hell

    ok, another angry ratdude thread...

anyway, i thought i found the solution to one of my problems.

I have been looking for laptop mouse with 5 buttons, and found the perfect mouse a university surplus store. it is an HP fx287aa. It was also missing the receiver... but I had a dead hp mose already with a good reciever. I figured, sure they should be cross-compatible.

anyway, as i found out, the reciever to my dead hp ey018aa doesn't work with the new mouse... and hp doesn't sell replacement receivers.

if only they made this a bluetooth mouse (but bluetooth 5 button mice are rare and pricey).

any suggestions to fix the issue? or did I flush $5 down the toilet?

i wonder if there is a way to hack it to be wired.... i doubt it though.

also, i doubt wifi would be good... bluetooth is a better choice imho.

When was the last time you saw a laptop that didn't have wifi? How about Bluetooth? Bluetooth is almost always an option. Plus, it draws a lot more power than Wifi. If they could do some tweaking the Bluetooth, maybe... but I never liked it.

well, for one, wifi is more designed for netowrk ip purposes and is meant to be shared between computers.. the driver to make it work must not be goood for linux...
