Hooking up laptop display to 15 pin vga connector

    Hi All,

Anyone ever try to use a display from a laptop and connect/joining it directly to a 15 pin VGA cable, for a really portable display useful for testing purposes.
This display is 15.4 wgxa, from an old Emachines M5105 laptop.
After opening the display bracket etc. the display is made by Samsung LTN154X1-L03.
There are two connectors and a ground wire, for connection to laptop.
One connector is small with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple.
The other connector is a bit larger with 8 blue wires and 4 red wires plugging into the monitor near the top in the pictures supplied.

The 15 pin cable is from a Dell CRT that I found in the garbage, pictures supplied of that as well.

Any help in this or any regards would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

Laptop connector is digital. VGA is analog. It can't be done without active conversion.

      Thanks for the quick reply.
Is it possible to get this conversion box and if so what is it called?

Anyone know if it is possible to get a conversion device/unit, to do the job?

I think the Laptop LCD connectors are LVDS, so you would need to get somewhat of a LVDS-to-DVI connector and connect it to a video card that supports DVI.

Thanks, would you know how much such a device might cost?

Ebay/google it. Mp3Car.com has a lot of info on this kind of stuff. Read the datasheet of the panel and make sure that its actually LVDS and not TTL or something else.

The controller will cost more than the LCD is worth.
