    What type of cap?

    In another forum I stated that I thought that all gaming video cards today use solid caps. A fellow posted a couple of photos of a 7600gs video card with the metallic can caps, one which, though blurry in the photo, looked like it burst and had residue coming out.

    After looking more carefully at the photos I seem to see K shaped reliefs in them, so to my surprise I am guessing that they are paste filled caps? Or are they some other type? I thought I had read that solid caps were used on video cards now, is that wrong? Isn't the lower ESR needed for the video cards?

    I am not concerned with winning or losing a discussion, but with finding out what is true, can you help, please, thank you!

      There are low ESR electrolytic caps that come without the plastic sleeve on the market now.
      - They look like poly caps but aren't.
      The give-away is the vent.
      If it has a vent it's electrolytic.

          Ah, now do any of the gaming video cards use any kind of solid cap? I am tempted to pull my 7950GT and check now.

              Some do, some don't.

              Solid polymers are high end high reliability but they also cost as much as 6 times more.

                  I also depends on which polymer you are comparing to which electrolytic.
                  There are polymers that aren't as good as some electrolytics.

                      P15 Gen 1 (type 20ST, 20SU) Laptop (ThinkPad) - Type 20ST needs the main BIOS and video. The client says that after the Windows updates there was a firmware update and after that the device makes the sound of music when there is no screen. Moreover, if you turn it on several times then the picture sometimes appears and it works and passes all tests (wonder)
