    Cap search

Hi, I'm struggling to find a replacement capacitor for a dps-180xb psu.

    100uf 450v 105c
    33mm x 23mm
    Lead pitch 12.5mm

The current Ltec capacitor is slightly bulged, measures 95.5uF, I don't have an ESR meter but I,m sure it's a gonna.

I've tried all the usual suppliers in the UK to no avail.

The closest I can find is at Digikey, but they are 50mm long, I can go to 40mm max.

Anyone got one or know where I can get one?

82uF - may be good enough, esp if the psu won't run at 200+ watts all the time.

In UK you have CPC, which i understand works better than farnell for you guys. Something about no minimum orders or something. It's owned by farnell so no worries about it

Also search for same capacitors or something suitable on RS-Online : http://uk.rs-online.com/web/?&cm_mmc..._-MainWorldMap

      It's a good store.

        Re: Cap search

Thanks Mariushm, I had not considered snap in caps, 'cos I've never heard of them

The old cap is leaded, 12.5mm lead pitch, so none of the caps you mentioned would 'snap in'. Though I could just solder leads onto them I suppose.

As this is a primary cap, are the specs not as important?

        'Scuse my ignorance

The specs aren't that important for primary capacitors. Most of the capacitors I linked to probably have better specs than that Ltec capacitor anyway.

On that kind of power supply I would be more concerned about heat and how well the capacitor handles it, then worry about specs.

            Re: Cap search

All the capacitors I've ever bought came from CPC, all Panasonic, and all for motherboards. The highest capacitance 450v cap they have is only 33uf, today at least.

Found this little fellow though http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/alumin...itors/7567686/

I assume that would be ok?

The height is 35mm for that one. If you can fit such a tall capacitor then yes, it seems ok.

Yeah, the old one is 33mm. It's a slimline PSU, so the cap lies on it's side & I have 40mm to play with.

Would this one be suitable for a PSU, if I soldered some leads on? http://cpc.farnell.com/vishay-bc-com...0uf/dp/CA05277
