    Asus X83V Revival

Guess what kids? It's another Ratdude build thread!

This time, it's an Asus X83V redeux, to replace one in worse shape that literally went up in smoke on me.

Old threads on the previous one:

    When I first bought it:

    Trading LCD panels:

Pondering a C2Q upgrade (which I could still do, somebody here has one that they can't use ) :

    Up in smoke:

    ---

I bought this sucker. I was hoping the ebay price would drop as the listing ran out of time, but no luck, oh well:

More or less the same problems the first one had. Only this one hasn't been to Afghanistan and back (so hopefully no rusty VGA ports or the like ).

    I will be:

    -SLIC'ing the BIOS
-moving over my other upgrades (wifi/BT, CPU, etc)
-Replacing the LCD with my modded unit.
-Praying that my ancient arch x64 install will still update with some coaxing.
I have a plan though. If not, I have a slightly quirkier but compatible install on my Dell D630 that was recently upgraded that I can copy.

Now the question is... do I try my car charger on this one

No, seriously, I couldn't find anything wrong with the charger. Maybe find something junk to load test it with first? Other than Sam Young caps (which I probably should replace...) nothing was blown.

Either way, looks like fun to me!

That C2Q CPU is sitting in the same spot it was last time you were here.

Yeah, but the question there is whether or not I need hotdogs and marshamallows for the VRM

      Just saying...

You'd have to do some design research on what the VRM could handle. The processor of mine is a SLB5G with a TDP of 45w. The T6400 is 35w. I don't see a 10w differential causing explosions.

She came in. Despite some missing parts it was in pretty good condition. Few scratches, which for a very glossy laptop isn't easy.

Moved over everything. Runs great, posting from it now.
