    Replacement cap help

    Hi,

    I am wanting to replace a burst cap on a dell motherboard but i'm struggling to find a replacement.

    it is a - 820uf 6.3v diameter = 8mm length = 20mm

    please does anyone know where i can get 1 from (pref UK) or can I substitute it with something else?

    This is from digikey

    but Panasonic FM is widely available from the big UK internet sites.

    It is 8x15mm.

    Panasonic FM is low ESR cap.

      What grade is the original cap? Are there any other markings on it that would indicate its series?

      Rubycon/Nichicon/Chemicon made custom size "extra tall" 820uF caps for many P4-era boards. The custom size 820uF cap has lower ESR and higher ripple current limits than a normal 820uF cap. If your cap is one of these custom size ones, FM would be an inadequate replacement. They don't make the custom size any more, so you're left with the option to use a poly cap on it, or find some new old stock of the custom size capacitors.

      But...let's get more info about the original before jumping to that conclusion.
