How to test the waveform update rate in a new oscilloscope?

I have see one video on youtube that some one connected possibly at the pass/Fail BNC one multimeter which it was measuring KHz, and it supposed that the frequency was representing the waveform update rate of the oscilloscope in a range of test frequencies.

Is this the correct way to do such measurement?

You best use TRIG OUT if available; PASS/FAIL may be limited to how fast mask testing works.

And it is that simple? TRIG OUT and a frequencies counter...
      No other magic is required?

Should be all that is necessary..
