What I did was heat up one of the two leads that are soldered to the board and lift it up then repeat for the other one. After both of the leads are lifted I took my iron and but a large amount of solder on the tab and applied a small amount of pressure until the transistor started moving then I took a pair of pliers and picked it up off of the board and dropped it on my soldering sponge because it was of course very hot. I then wicked all of the solder off of the pad. It did seem like an inordinate amount of time needed to get the transistor off but it did eventually come off.

    Hope this all makes sense!
