To be fair, any HDD manufacture can make extremely high quality drives, I find that the length of the warranty is a good indication of that, as is the kind of drive, maybe... older Western Digital drives seem to be rather good (longitudinal recording), I have heard of them lasting as long as old Seagate drives, along with some select Maxtors (so long as they're kept cool)...
