I ended up doing some more research and I ended up finding some info which allowed me to successfully use this utility without any need for an external programmer. Schematics for my device documented a service mode (separate from the audio chip FD override), accessible by shorting ME_SW_PCH to 3.3V, which temporarily deactivates all spi protections. This allowed me to do a full read of my chip via flashrom, patch it, and reflash via FPT. Just figured I'd document this to help out those who have had issues with physical programmers. If anyone wants to try this and needs help finding the right test...
