Good day folks. I've got this Toshiba TV which is driving me up the wall. The problem is as follows: I initially replaced its LED strips...all fine and dandy, it worked perfectly, everyone was happy, the guy took it home and I thought that would be it - another satisfied customer plus some money in the kitty...until I received a call the following day that the TV no longer turns on - the LED would just blink red-green alternatively and that's it. I naturally explained to them that the original problem was different (the dead LEDs) and that there was nothing I could do under "warranty" but have a look at it again, for it most likely had a busted firmware. I can't possibly imagine what could've happened to it on their way home...They agreed and brought it back in and sure enough the set which was like new a day ago, is now a pile of junk with a blinking LED. If this isn't the worst thing to happen to someone I don't know what is. Think about it: they paid to get the LEDs replaced, they saw it working perfectly in the shop, then they take it home and they don't get to enjoy it even for a second ! :| So:
What I tried so far: pulled out the SPI chip (there's only one on there), read it and wrote it back onto the same chip - nothing.
Grabbed an USB update package for a slightly different Toshiba (see the attachment) and modified the text file to comment out the part about Mboot.bin which is what some chaps on a local forum advised me to do. Ok, worth a try: I plugged the thumb drive into the thing, held down the OK key like I've done countless times with Vestels so far and then plug the set into the wall outlet.....now it got even worse: now the LED no longer came on at all...I tried it again and again, used different thumb drives, mashed that OK button till the cows came home but it was useless - it simply won't go into "download" mode. Ironically if I pull out the memory stick, it goes back to flashing red-green like it did before. Very rarely I've gotten the f***er to RAPIDLY flash red-green, indicating that it DID load something off the USB thumb drive (also confirmed by the light on it), but it only did so for like 10 seconds then just remained like that indefinitely, so I'm not entire sure this is a firmware issue...I tried heating up the board and the PSU but no.....same exact thing: doesn't start at all with the thumb drive or doesn't load anything. A superficial test with the DMM shows the rails on the main board are functional, although not having a scope I can't probe the noise on them....
The panel is a VES315WNDS. Now I'm stuck and if I don't get any help I'll have no choice but to be the bearer of the worst possible news to these guys and tell them they've basically thrown their money out the window as their TV is now a brick with no choice but to replace the whole MB which they told me is too expensive for them so it goes in the trash....
*OFF TOPIC* This is a real glimpse into how the human world works: today you're all singing and dancing, the next moment you get run over by a truck and you're no more.......*sigh*
