Samsung TV has red tint over everything (menus included)

MODEL - LE40D503F7W (Sorry for missing it in the title!)

edit: Sorry for the missing model in the title, I tried to edit it in but it doesn't reflect the change? I made the stupid mistake because i was typing fast and just hit "post thread"

    Hello all,

Okay, so I have a (rather old) samsung TV (full model is LE40D503F7W, more detailed info available in the images) and recently the screen just became red (see the pictures in the attachment, it's not entirely red, it's a red tint)
I entered the service menu and in the pattern test menu I noticed that black is replaced with red, which would explain the tint. (also available in the pictures)
The "lines" that you see are something like a temporary burn in, when I open and close a menu, it stays visible for some time.
When I turn the device off, wait for a minute, then switch it ON, it's a clean red screen with no lines.

After openning the chassis and looking for something strange looking (I'm handy in electronics, but this is my first time to open a TV), I noticed that a part, which I assume is the tuner, gets VERY hot VERY FAST. (I circled it in the first picture with red)

I tried other sources (PC via hdmi) and they have the exact same issue.

I tried cleaning the flat cable connecting the screen and the board, but no dice. I also updated the firmware to the newest available version.

I hope the images are enough information, I'd just like to know what exactly broke, I don't mind buying a replacement part but I'd like to avoid buying the wrong part.

I spent 2 days looking here (and on the rest of the internet) for this specific problem, but couldn't find a working solution, or at least a hint what exactly needs to be replaced.

    T-Con, AS-15 or panel-fault.

      Hello,

have you fixed the problem, I'm having same problem with my TV, same model.

This tv has the T-con integrated in the buffer PCB and do not install the IC AS-15

I changed many AS-15 on other samsung TV and always solved problem but this time it's different, the AS-15 is not present

The power board is ok, non bad caps and voltage values are correct

By connecting another input source to scart/HDMI problem always present.
Connecting an external 2nd TV, to the scart, I have no pictures,
In theory if I see good image on the 2nd TV then mainboard is good and the t-con is failed, while if the image has same problem of the 1st TV then main board is bad and t-con is good.

I think that even in this case, with no scart output image, the mainboard is broken

      Thanks for any help advice

      Gigi

My 2 cents is that the panel is busted (since no t-con is present from what I understand).

Hi Dannyx, thanks for you reply
yes the last thing is the panel LCD faulty but only after a check with new mainboard I can find out.
On ebay I found one same code used but in full working state for about 50 euro

Make sure you don't spend more than the TVs worth, esp. since you're not sure it'll work...

              Hey,

My last attempt to fix this was to order a new mainboard online,
I found one on ebay for $30 (this thing https://i.ebayimg.com/images/i/28205...0/s-l140/p.jpg ) , and it didn't change anything.

In the end I gave up, didn't want to invest more money into it without knowing whats going to fix it.

                Hi adnan_e and Dannyx,

                thanks for your support

Since I repair TV and other things for many years I always would like to fix everything, but not always is possible or convenient :-(

In this case I found a used, fully functional, mainboard for 40€ and I bought it, I'm waiting to receive it

The reason why I accept the risk is that the result of my tests told me that could be the mainboard

Connecting second tv to output scart mainboard we can have more then 1 behaviour:

                1) On the 2nd TV there are images with same problem of 1st TV (problem is the mainboard)
                2) On the 2nd TV there are good images, problem is on the 1st TV (T-CON or LCD Panel)
                3) No image on the 2nd TV (problem should be mainboard, this is my case)

Will let you know if new/used mainboard fix my problem
