Samsung PN43D450A2D Plasma clicks, doesn't power up

This Samsung Plasma TV, when plugged in, clicks on and off a few times before giving up and displaying a solid red light. The panel is cracked, probably a few inches long, as shown in the photos. I was told that this happened about a month before it quit working, so I'm not sure if it's related or not. The boards and stuff look okay visually.

    Any ideas?

The crack kills the panel. There is no way a crack that long and in that position would allow the panel to operate for any significant length of time. This will prevent the set powering up (plasma displays do not operate when cracked, unlike LCDs.)

So there's no way it could have ran for a month like that? It isn't mine, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of that statement, I'm just curious.

If it is the panel, I'm guessing there aren't any options for getting a replacement cost effectively then.

        Not all bad news tho,
There was someone looking for the X and Ysus on this forum a few days ago.
You should send him a PM and get arrange a sale.

Assuming, of course, that the X is still working as these fail all the time in these sets.

It's not actually my set, but if I can clear it with the owner, it'd be fine with me. In that other thread you were talking about, was it the exact same model? Do you remember about when the thread was posted?

Pretty sure it was only posted yesterday or Thursday at the latest.

                  Ah well

I just thought I should clarify, in response to the first post that said "There is no way a crack that long and in that position would allow the panel to operate for any significant length of time", I may have misrepresented the size of the crack in the picture (on the off-chance that this makes a difference). What looks like the upper bezel is actually a countertop; the crack is only 4 - 7 inches in length.

Thanks, but shucks. I usually try to steer clear of the pain that is international shipping. I hope he finds some parts cost effectively to get his set going again.

It's a plasma it really doesn't matter where it's cracked.
Once the gas escapes it's done.

Any crack can kill the panel.
If it does not stop it emitting light, you will usually get a band or blob where the crack occurs (but this usually only happens on the higher-end panels which use a different cell structure)
Maybe the previous owner was lying - I have had it happen before to me.

And it's not just the gas leak, but the Y- and X- electrodes being shorted together, which can damage the Y-buffer, which will cause the set to shut down due to Vsch fault.

                        by CDNBrewer
                        Hello, I have a Samsung Plasma TV - Model # PN43D450A2D

This was my parents TV and the initial symptoms were that the display was hard to turn on with the display making various clicking noises until one day it would not turn on anymore.

I took a look and found a couple 1000uF capacitors (i believe on the low voltage size) that had leaked out their electrolyte and did not test well on a tester. I replaced them but still no dice.

When the TV is plugged in, there is no clicking, LED status lights (on PCB boards or the front display) and the power on button...
