    Toshiba 65QA5D63DB - Dead EMMC

    Hi,

TV has broken down, it started with what I suspect was a bad EMMC (tv stays on red standby and doesn’t respond to remote). I tried a hitachi board with the same connections and the tv powered up with the hitachi logo and double screen (this was the test to check if a new main board would work). I bought a new board but I’m now getting duplicate image which I suspect is because the panel software on the replacement board is different to mine?

what’s the next step? I tried using ChatGPT Premium (AI) to help me however I tried downloading the .pkg file it told me to download and tried renaming the file to Upgrade.pkg and force_upgrade.pkg and MB185.pkg like it told me to but the tv didn’t detect it. I tried holding ok button in whilst powering on the tv but it just booted the tv up as normal every time. What’s the next step I can do? ChatGPT says I need to take the EMMC from the duplicated screen board and put it on my faulty board and that’ll get it displaying properly, it says this is my only option (Baring in mind I’m Unsure if what ChatGPT told me is correct) so I’m happy to retry or do whatever you guys suggest me to try and disregard ChatGPT.

thanks in advanced for the help! Much appreciated

Do you need to specify which motherboard you're using? If not, 17MB185? If so, which update did you try to restore the TV with? I have an update file for this TV named "28845894_MB185_MED_TOS_USER_SIGNED_8294449_V02212_.xls.ZIP" (upgrade_image_no_tvcertificate.pkg).

17MB185, 180721R2A. I can also give you the panel number if required? This is the same one I was using however I was just putting the pkg file into the root of the usb and then renaming it to the things ChatGPT was telling me and using the button combinations that it was telling me to press when putting the tv on but had no luck but I’m open to retrying it with any method you would suggest.

This is the first time I've heard about your renaming. You don't need to rename anything. If the update doesn't pick up, try renaming it to MDS_upgrade_image_no_tvcertificate.pkg.

That could be what was happening then… I’ll try that thank you! And how should I get the tv to pick the update up? What should I press whilst putting the tv on? It told me to hold in the OK a button and power the tv on until it flashes rapidly.

Try first inserting the flash drive into the USB port, then plugging it into a power outlet, and waiting 5-20 seconds. The update should start.
If it doesn't work, try the same thing but hold down the power button on the remote, and on the TV.
