I have an LG 60PK950-UA plasma TV that has developed an intermittent video problem, I've searched the stickys and other posts, but have not found a thread that addresses this problem. If I have missed something on this forum, my apologies ...please point me in the right direction!
This TV is a 2011 manufacture and was a hand-me-down from my in-laws about 9 months ago. All was well until about 2 weeks ago when the video would drop out (the screen would go black) at uneven intervals. It might happen after 2 hours of TV watching or after 6 hours. No noise from the TV when this happens; the screen just goes black. I never lose the audio however. The red standby light comes on when the video drops out. Typically, I just switch the power off with the remote, wait 15 seconds, and then switch the power back on and the picture comes back on. The TV can run for several hours and then I'll lose the video again.
I have noticed that the TV emits two loud clicks when I switch it on or off......Sounds like a relay to me, but I don't know what causes this or if it is normal.
The sleep timer is switched off. I downloaded the latest software from LG and installed it. I checked the capacitors on all of the boards.....none have ruptured or bubbled. The blinking green light (D1) on the logic board (50R1_60R1) continues to blink whether the video is working or not. When the video drops out, I notice that all of the aluminum heat sinks cool down rather quickly.
I suspect that a component has drifted in value or otherwise is beginning to fail. I have a digital meter and am experienced repairing vacuum tube audio gear (I'm accustomed to working with high DC voltage). How should I begin chasing this problem down? My thanks in advance!
