    Samsung PN58B650

Hey guys, My names Kelly, and I'm somewhat inexperienced with fixing TV's, as in I've never done it before. My issue is that my 5 year old TV decided to turn itself off and then began the clicking off and on cycle without any picture. I've been reading and watching videos in hopes of a solution. I took the back panel off and hoped to find bulged capacitors but unfortunately they look fine. The clicking sound is in the powersupply board so as of right now I'm mostly considering buying a (probably used) one and hoping for the best. Just wanted to know what you guys thought, thanks in advance.

    Power supply fault is unlikely...
Could you supply some pictures of the circuit board layout and of each circuit board.
Also, do you have access to a digital multimeter?

Hi, thanks for replying. If I may ask, why do you think the powersupply isn't the problem? About the circuit board layouts, do you want the backs of the boards? I also do not have the equipment you're asking about.

It's just from my experience. While Samsung plasmas do have power supply faults now and then, it's less common than other faults such as the sustain boards failing or main board having problems. If you want to go through diagnosing this set you'll need to post pictures as I don't have one in front of me.

Unfortunately a digital multimeter is all but essential. There are a few things you can do without it, but not much. You can buy cheap meters regularly for under $5 from hardware shops, which will do the job for TV repair.

I just got the "new" powersupply today and of course it didn't work. Instead of the clicking I was getting before, this one just buzzed loudly without any picture. Does that mean anything? This board looked like crap, I got it from Parts stop, do you think it's possibly good and that I should keep it for future repairs? I know I'm annoying with these questions but thank you for your input. I'll try to get those pictures ASAP.

I would advise --send that crap one back!

Your original is tripping because its detecting some fault or other in the set....
--Probably a short on the Vs line in either the Y-SUS, X-SUS or maybe buffer-boards....

Only some diagnosis will tell you where--You'll definitely need some test-equipment, and know/learn how to use it....

be careful though, if it is the plasma panel making the buzz it's probably got a crack in it.

Thanks for replying guys. I took the "new" board out and the TV is back to clicking. I'm intending on sending the card back. Now I'm either considering calling the repair people or ordering the mainboard card. A couple questions, do you know anyone in Idaho Who'd give me a deal on repair? If not, about how much "ballpark" to repair it? Also, is it safe to have my TV face down on a pad on a table for a while? Here are some pictures I hope they help. Thanks again.

                    Re: Samsung PN58B650

So, I got the logic card and put it in without any luck. Finally I decided to take it to the repair place Telco. A couple days later the guy calls and say's that the TV is garbage now because it has a crack in the display. Basically, i'm wondering if I broke it, or if they can break just sitting for years on a stand or what. He made a comment about it buzzing and that indicating a cracked display, but this particular TV has always buzzed loudly. I actually tried to return it when I first got it because of the sound.

I'm not sure what to do now. I'm also wondering if it's possible they're just hoping I'll leave it with them and it's not even cracked. Perhaps someone on here could let me know what they think of my situation. Thanks for everyone's help nonetheless.

                      Re: Samsung PN58B650

Well--Whatever happens, pull it out of that place!

IF the panel is shot, at least you can sell off some parts (Or the complete set as-is), but advise buyers that there may be issues with some of the boards such as buffer, Z-SUS and Y-SUS due to panel crack.

Maybe a second opinion from a recommended guy would be an idea....

Get it back. Look at the display to see the crack. you said the TV was Buzzing with a new power supply in it is there possibilities of the power supply itself wasn't I think the panel behind it was because it's cracked the panel will buzz. basically there's a possibility that when you swap the power supply the panel was already cracked. and of course at the panels cracked you won't have a picture but it will Buzz loudly
Did I leave the soldering iron on?
