Hi everyone! I have one of these on my desk right now, and I've been doing the regular troubleshooting for blurred images (reseating ribbon cables, panel tabs etc, checking voltages on the t-con and main boards). I cleaned all of the cable connections to remove any static buildup, but that did not work. Searched and found this thread with a similar problem.

Here's an image of the problem- double lines everywhere, and the picture keeps jumping.

I had the same problem with my Samsung 40" LED tv. I was able to fix it for no money, all on my own. It took a little bit to get the picture back but it was a very easy fix. Watch this video on YouTube. I hope this helps.

Seems like a bad panel. Everything in the TV was replaced and the problem persisted. There's only the panel left.

i tried 4 different cables and also replaced power supply with a known good one. still having same issues. I am able to release lock on panel ribbon cable and hold in a certain spot to attain a good picture with minimal display issues but do see very small lines. any other advice? bad panel???

You could ask any sellers who have broken up this TV if they have kept those cables.

i looked at the tv briefly today, i didnt have my meter with me to test voltages on the power supply. i did find that with one ribbon cable unhooked half the screen works great, when you plug it in it returns to a double image. i found that if you plug the ribbon cable in but dont close the lock and apply pressure in the right spot, i get the tv to have a clean and clear picture like normal. i am now thinking it is a bad ribbon cable from the tcon board to the panel. this number is printed on it: YK1330G2 2269. i am going to research a replacement. hope this fixes it!!

It could possibly be power supply voltage related? The sets that begin with UN tend to be the incredibly thin ones, which means they use very rare / odd parts on the power supply (the hardest part to thin out).

Have you tried testing the voltages with the set on to see if they are within 5% of the markings on the board, and you could also try reading the voltages with 1 ribbon cable disconected?

Im thinking theres a slim chance that it is able to stably power half the screen, but powering the other half makes the 5v or 12v drop to low.

Took a look at the tv again and replaced the main input board with the same results. I unplugged half of the screen outputs from the tcon board one at a time. I found with the left side plugged in and the right unplugged half the screen works . A soon as the right is plugged in it messes it up. I tried putting pressure on all the tab bonds with no change. Is the panel dead? Thinking it's time to throw in the towell and scrap it out.

Understood.
Well, in this case, I believe the panels are made in such a way that the tab bonds are protected by a metal surround. So flexing this may not make a difference.
Since you have nothing to loose and like to tinker, you could literally disassemble the panel and then have a look at the literal bonds.

when i spoke to samsung when it first failed they expressed there was nothing they could do but send a tech out on my expense and referred me to the retailer beyond that. Retailer said out of warranty call samsung. i don't care to call any of them and make a stink, thats not how I am. I just want to fix it if it is cost effective and learn something new. any advice on troubleshooting would be appreciated. i posted in a repair forum to try to learn how to repair it and broaden my knowledge base. thanks again everyone.

I would call Samsung even if it is out of warranty, I have seen numerous times where Samsung has honored it (even being panel replacements) and even extended the warranty. I have even seen them replace power supplies on 2007 plasma TVs if it has the infamous clicking plague.
Say what Tom66 has said in post 12 just don't be arrogant.

The worst they can say is no but you'll probably get something out of them.

Being that they do, re-install the original parts as they sometimes core the main and definitely the panel (which includes TCON).

yeah the retailer is not going to warranty this, my parents just bought a new tv and want me to fix this one to use elsewhere. Thanks for the advice. I am a tinkerer by nature and really enjoy learning new things so this is a great opportunity for me. I found a good deal to replace the main input board so i ordered it. just looking for some repair and troubleshooting advice now. Will install the board this week when it comes. i tried pressure on the frame and light twisting as well and there was no change in screen display. any way to test the tab bonds? anyone have a repair procedure if it comes to that? thanks in advance

Not just ignorant, but willfully ignorant and they will often lie to you.

In the UK, you have an effective "6 year warranty" under the Sale of Goods Act.

However, your warranty in this case is with the retailer, and not the manufacturer. So you need to go to them before trying to go to Samsung (as any claim with Samsung will be "good faith" instead of under SOGA.) It is up to you to prove the item failed early. A very quick and easy way to do this is to get a report from a technician (even if they just install TVs or fix computers -- just needs a light technical background) stating that the early failure appears to be due to a manufacturing defect. Most will do it for a small fee.

I totally agree with Tom, regardless of the Samsung guarantee, a new TV should last more than 14 months. If i were you i would be looking into your local consumer laws, if the laws in the USA are anything like the UK consumer laws, then you should have no problem at all in getting this fixed or replaced free of charge.

Don't get me wrong, shops over here are often ignorant of the consumer laws, and will often tell you they can do nothing because the warranty is out. But they tend to change their mind when you start to quote a few consumer rights at them.

Stand your ground indeed.

You need to stand your ground, it is ridiculous that the TV only lasted 14 months. Call them up and demand that it be serviced. As currently, you have "irrepairably lost confidence in Samsung products."

heres an update, received the new tcon board today and installed it. powered up the tv and the picture was the same as before so unfortunately it wasnt the tcon board. Looking for suggestions now. any way to troubleshoot whether it is the main board or panel??? looking for suggestions. Thanks everyone. I called Samsung and the vendor i purchased it from and both were happy to send out a service tech at my expense as the warranty is up by two months. this is my parents tv that is in their home they only visit once or twice a month so it is hardly used.

But somehow Samsung retain a good reputation despite producing poor quality electronics.

Maybe people are suckered in by the pretty ads, (admittedly) good picture performance, and middle-of-the-road pricing?

Here in the UK, if my Samsung UE37D6100 developed a fault like this at just 14 months old i would be on to the dealer i bought it from. Consumer rights over here are pretty strong, even if the TV is out of warranty.

The Sale of Goods Act offers protection against faulty goods even when the manufacturer's guarantee has run out. The act says goods must last a reasonable time and be fit for purpose - and that can be anything up to six years from the date of purchase.

And i would certainly say that i would expect a brand new TV to last longer than 14 months! If you have similar laws in your Country i would be checking it out. If it only lasted 14 months then it's simply not fit for purpose

I was not an active member of this forum before i bought my sammy - if i was i doubt i would have bought it, my 12 month warranty runs out in a couple of weeks, i am hoping i do not have any problems in the near future, but if i do in the first couple of years at least, i will be studying and quoting a few laws before i resort to taking the back off. (Even though i would enjoy delving inside it).

Hope this post is not deemed too off topic, it's just that i do not think Samsung should be allowed to get away with selling gear that only lasts 14 months. Let's face it, we're not talking about a £5 bedside radio here. A TV is a big investment for anyone, and you should expect it to last a whole lot longer than 14 months.

Whatever route you take, i hope you get it fixed, will be keeping an eye on this thread to see how it goes. (I seem to have developed a keen interest in the Samsung LCD/LED threads since buying mine).
